20100625 Bonedigger Volleyball Event - Montrose Beach : BONEDIGGER - Born and Bred on the Beaches and Bars of Chicago. http://community.bonedigger.com/ The Digger event will be Friday June 25th, 2010. Thanks to all who have registered. How does the Digger work? There will be approximately 6 rounds in pool play. Each round you will be randomly paired with a partner against randomly assigned opponents. There will be a large pairings board where you will locate your card to identify your partner and the court you are playing on. Then you will go to your court, play AND have fun (mandatory) and NOT whine. After each round you will mark on your card whether you have Won or Lost and place your card back in the jar. You are responsible for marking your card accurately. At the end of pool play, the folks with the most wins will advance to the playoffs. The Rules 1. The idea is to have fun games that maximize participation, so IF THERE ARE ANY DISCREPANCIES, REPLAY THE POINT. Period. 2. Prior to the first round, all participants will setup the net and lines for their court. For your assistance, everyone who plays the first round will receive a win. 3. We’ll be using rally scoring for the first time this year. Games are played to 21, and must be won by 2 points, with a cap at 23. Teams will switch sides on 7's. We reserve the right to switch to traditional side-out scoring to 15 for the semi-finals and finals for greater fan enjoyment. 4. Courtesy rule - Guys serve the guys. Ladies serve anybody. This rule applies to every serve, not just game point. If you accidentally serve the lady twice in a row, serve the ball underhand to the guy on the next serve (or serve it out). If it still goes to the gal, she has the option to just catch the ball (on the third serve in a row), stop the point, and it counts as a side-out. 5. Return of serve – no hand setting the serves, hands must be together. 6. No dangerous flying underneath the net! Safety first. 7. Net serves are good. 8. Three hits per side – a block does not count as a hit. 9. Please refrain from excessive use of hitting the first or second ball over and “taking your partner out of the game”. We are here to have fun and give everybody a chance to play. If someone complains that you are continually going over on 1 and/or 2, we will pull you aside and ask you to play within the Bonedigger spirit. 10. No open hand dinks (knuckles and pokes are good). This does not apply to blocks. 11. Overhand sets over #1 - if you intend to set your partner and the ball goes over without your partner touching it you lose the point - even if it is wind-aided. 12. Overhand sets over #2 – if you intend to set the ball over the net and not to your partner, your shoulders must be square to the direction of the ball. This should not be used as an offensive play, rather as your last option to get the ball over. It should be used in extremely limited instances. 13. Bad Sets – call your own bad sets (not clean or carried). There is no rotation rule. 14. On a “Hard Driven” ball, double hits and overhand passes are allowed. Carries are not. Carries are never allowed. 15. Overhand sets are allowed at all times except for serve receive. 16. Ball On - Please call out as soon as the ball is on your court or interferes with play. If there is any controversy, replay the point. 17. If you think somebody has committed a bad set, got the net, or some other infraction, just ask them. If there is any controversy, replay the point. 18. Troubled Folks - If you feel somebody is breaking the rules repeatedly, is taking things way too seriously, or is just being a jag, please see somebody on the Rules Committee. Any questions?
